When we’re talking about our eyes, an emergency is any situation where the health of your eyes is in immediate danger. While a lot of eye emergencies are preventable, most people are unprepared for an emergency.
If you find yourself in an emergency, finding qualified medical care should be your first priority.
At Royal Oak Optical, our experienced and trustworthy team of eye care professionals is always prepared to help you in an emergency.
If you are experiencing an eye emergency, please contact us right away. If you require immediate assistance, please call 911.
Common Eye Emergencies
There are multiple different types of eye emergencies that you may experience. The four most common eye emergencies are:
- Complications from eye disease
- Chemical injuries
- Foreign objects
- Blunt trauma
Eye Emergency DOs & DON’Ts
If you have an emergency, DO contact us at Royal Oak Optical, or seek out medical attention if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Any loss of vision
- Intense eye pain, burning, or stinging
- Sudden & extreme sensitivity to light
- Bleeding in or from the eye
- You’ve experienced blunt trauma
- A sudden change in pupil size
- An eye is bulging or sticking out
- You have experienced a chemical injury
- You have a foreign object in your eye
No matter what type of emergency you’re in, DON’T:
- Rub or apply pressure to your eye
- Try to remove foreign objects stuck in your eye
- Use any sort of tool or object in your eye
- Remove contact lenses unless you’ve suffered a chemical injury
- Put medications or ointments in your eye
